Rabbit Hole #1
Linen, Birkenstocks, Cartier Tank (mini)
Operation Camp Collar
Ok, first of all. Growing up I was never a collared shirt kind of guy. For the most part, any shirt with a collar had one purpose….golf.
Over time I grew to appreciate how a well made shirt (or any piece of clothing really) can make you feel, better yet, transport you.
Enter my new obsession…the camp collar.
I mean we’re talking Italian coast, Aperol, James Bond, summer, gold necklaces, etc etc etc.
Now, I’m not saying you have to be on the coast or somewhere tropical to wear a camp collar. I wore one out fly fishing the other day…in Colorado. What I’m saying is give them a shot, you won’t regret it…couple rules though:
if you can, go 100% linen. (think immediate naptime soft)
color/design…anything goes really. My favorites have that lighter beachy vibe
optional: unbutton and drop a white or black ribbed tank under it (this is it)
The Cool Kids Call Em Birks
I’ll keep this short. I was a hater.
I thought they were goofy, not functional, and dare I say too hipster.
Not anymore. Going to take out the trash, birks. Going to grab coffee, birks. Going to the office, birks. Raining and should wear my cowboy boots, birks.
Obviously I’m late to the party here but man was I dead wrong. The simplicity, design, and convenience level of these things have pushed these to the top of my rotation.
p.s. I went with a wool option because it was during the winter when I dove deep down this rabbit hole. There are literally a billion options.
p.p.s. Sizing is a bit weird. Best go try on in stores if you can.
Tank Mini
Watches and Wonders just wrapped up this week and for the most part there wasn’t too much I was excited about (Rolex I’m looking at you).
However along with a couple cool releases from Tudor, the Tank Mini was something that immediately intrigued me.
This thing is art deco to the max. With the traditional tank coming in around 30mm x 23mm, the new tank mini says hold my beer. Measuring in at 24mm x 16.5mm. At this moment it is not on their website but here’s a couple things that caught my eye.
marketed unisex - i.e. this is a perfect watch for your wife’s collection that you end up wearing almost as much as her. (as my wife would say, “ourrrr watch”)
18k yellow gold (no other way with a tank imo)
quartz movement (who cares, its a tank)
must squint to tell the time but also (who cares, its a tank)
Book I’m Reading
Live No Lies by John Mark Comer
Song(s) I’m listening to
Pokemon Jazz - Jazzemon Essemble
Hear me out…this one is for all of you Pokemon nostalgia lovers OR jazz lovers OR both.
If you listened to this without know the title, you would think this is your regular ole calming jazz music. Now for those of us that played Pokemon growing up, listen a little closer. You’re welcome.
Cheers!
Henry
