With Father’s Day approaching, I felt like it was appropriate to join in on the fun. Here’s some recommended shopping for those picky and particular dads.
Hope this gives you some inspiration, if not…at least introduce some new rabbit holes to go down.
For the high handicap dads
Malbon Knit Sweater - Step up your style. Malbon is the Kith of the golf scene. So many awesome collaborations.
Takomo 301 CB Irons - This brand is all over the YouTube golf scene. Forged steel irons for under 1k. Count me (or dad) in. Sort of look like Mizuno and Ping made a baby.
Seamus Golf Head Cover - Time to toss the stock head covers and spice up that golf bag. Tartans, tweed, and canvas, Seamus has it all.
Random Golf Club Cube Laser Rangefinder - Not your everyday rangefinder. Allows you to obtain distance between two points from a different standing point. So cool.
Bluegrass Fairway Waxed Canvas Valuables Pouch - These things are clutch. Go watch any pro’s witb (what’s in the bag) video, everyone carries a version of this.
Perfect Putting Matt - Good at the office, good in the garage, good right in the middle of your living room.
Just a dad and his yard
Solo Stove Bonfire - I cannot recommend this enough. We got one as a wedding gift a while back and have used it countless times. It really completes the patio experience.
Garrett Wade Fruit Picker - I half put this on here as a joke. But if your dad has an apple tree in the back yard, this thing is the ticket. Description reads, “COLLECT FASTER, WITH LESS DAMAGE & WASTE.” I feel like a dad out there would appreciate that.
Scotts Broadcast Spreader - It doesn’t get more classic than this.
Mechanix Wear Work Gloves - The best gloves don’t exi….
Carhartt WIP Double Knee Work Pants - For those yard-work packed weekends. I have a pair of these. They would take on anywhere from one to ten apocalypses.
Opinel Folding Knife - Nice little pocket knife for EDC
For the fancy dads
Diptique Fig Tree Classic Candle - The Ferrari of candle brands. Think Greek villa on the beach. Similar to their Philosykos fragrance (one of my favorites).
Barbour Bedale - One jacket to rule them all?
American Giant Heavyweight Tee - Lots of menswear influencers saying this is the best white tee out there. Can’t beat a good soft shirt.
Vintage Rolex - Nothing says I love you like a birth year Rolex. Linked is one of my favorite watch dealers out of California. She always has the goodies.
Brouk and Co Carry On Humidor - Ok this thing is cool.
For dads who like to cook
Made In Carbon Steel Pan - I’ve been waiting for the right moment to talk about this. Probably will do a whole write up on this later. Anyways, Made In is a brand we are gradually filling up our kitchen with. The quality is just top notch.
Carbon Knife Santoku - Wrote about these before. The Swiss army knife of cutlery. Made in Japan…no brainer.
A Man And His Kitchen - Big fan of Matt Hranek. Big fan of his cookbook.
Stanley French Press - For those early dad mornings. Also great for camping.
Hedley & Bennet Waxed Apron - Great for prepping food, great for bbq, great for looking like you know what you are doing.
GShock 5600 Series - This one could have been on any category. I think it’s a perfect first watch for a dad (how else will he time the brisket on the smoker?)
Time to stop wearing HEYDUDEs…like now.
GH Bass Weejuns - Classic for a reason. The ultimate vibe.
New Balance 990 - You had to guess I’d throw at least one “dad” shoe on here. I will allow one but only one. And if you are gonna do it, gotta go new balance. No funky color ways. Go with the tried and true grey silhouette.
Red Wing Moc Boots - At this point you know how I feel about well made leather shoes. These will last you a lifetime.
Salomon XT6 Trail Sneakers - Perfect for those hiking dads
For dads who like trout
Fishpond Tacky Medium Fly Box - I have the small dry fly version of this. I think the interior is silicone or just rubber, regardless it does a tremendous job keeping all your flies in place.
Orvis Recon Freshwater Fly Rod - Time to upgrade his fly rod. In my opinion this is one of the best performing rods out there for this price point. Made in the USA and a great warranty.
LL Bean Angler’s Lightweight Tote - Nothing beats a good tote for on the go storage.
Snow Peak Titanium Flask - This honestly could have went in the golf, yard, or any category for that matter. Snow Peak never gets it wrong.
The Believer: A Year in the Fly Fishing Life by David Coggins - I’ve never read a book so fast. Growing up, Traveling, and Fly Fishing, this book is a gem. (for double the points, grab “The Optimist” as well, just as good)
Simms Haul Cap - Every dad deserves a dad hat. Why not a cool one with a fly on it.
Happy early Father’s day!
Make it a killer week,
Henry
Happy to report in I only own 10 of these items.
